3 Important Things You Should Know About Floating Face Seal

• Floating face seals and track transmission maintenance: The floating face seal is a vital part of your travel or final transmission engine, either in a John Deere skid steer or in an ASV compact chain loader. It leans against the hub, retaining the gear oil on the planetary side and preventing contaminants from entering where they can damage the bearings and the gear. If this seal begins to leak, the engine of your travel unit will be damaged.

Floating face seals are not permanent: the floating face seal has been designed to survive in some of the most extreme conditions encountered with construction equipment and earthmoving equipment. However, keep in mind that floating face seals have a limited service life and are supposed to be replaced during the life of your equipment, be it an ASV drive motor or a CAT hydraulic motor.

• What happens when the floating face seal falls flat: a leak in the rear sprocket means that the floating face seal can no longer achieve an airtight seal. Not only can the gear oil be filtered, which allows injuries and decomposition on the planetary side of its final transmission, but the abrasive material can now penetrate into its final transmission.
